"The Inner Light" sheet music from Star Trek: The Next Generation

My son has been learning to play the recorder at school this year, and like all nerdy Trek-loving parents, we thought, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if he could play that song from “The Inner Light“?!

I went looking but couldn’t readily find sheet music. I knocked out a quick handwritten version for him that I modified for the notes he knew how to play, and he loved it.

We quickly turned to YouTube to help stoke the enthusiasm, and I rediscovered all the different versions. There’s the one from the episode itself, and then the duet from the later episode “Lessons“, and then some fantastic orchestral performances.

That last one tipped me off that the instrument I really wanted for the job was a tin whistle (there’s no such thing as a Ressikan flute 😉 ). So I ordered one for each of us. 🙂

Then I found this awesome Star Trek MIDI collection, realized that I could use GarageBand to turn MIDIs into sheet music, and the rest is history.
